Now when they first announced they'd found a body but hadn't been able to identify him, did anyone else think that maybe it would have been best to keep it to themselves until they knew which one it was?

think this thread be better kept as a condolence thread for bereaved families and not a debate into the politics of what should or should not of been said and the actions of the emergency services sorry just my opinion

Listening to the local news it would seem that they were pretty sure which of the four it was and family were told as soon as possible after they found him, possibly kept from the full media til later on the day x

We will all have opinions on this, I don't see a problem with discussing issues that arose on the media today, many of the news reporters were speculating as to who/why/how etc...it is only human nature... yes we are posting our condolences but, being honest, nothing derogatory was written about any actions of the emergency services was it ? x x

this has been a tragedy . four men trying to earn a living and support there families have lost there lives . people who go underground to mine whatever substance are very brave . four families now have no male figure head . our thoughts are with them . and may the four men rest in peace .

The Welsh community has pulled together like nothing I have ever been aware of before, even in our village, which is quite a few miles away, there is a sense of loss within some of the 'elders' of the village....so very sad x x

A quarter million were miners here during the heydays. Most will know someone who has been involved in previous accidents, so they really do know how this pit village feels today.

My heart goes out to them.

When people go to work the least they can expect is to come home again - sadly these men never will - condolences from the ex-Yorshire coalfields

Yes very sad day in wales ppl, lived in the south wales valleys all our lives, infact we live on top of 1 the biggest x-coal mines in wales (quite scary thought really)and u can sense the loss everywhere because if u live in south wales either your father/gramps etc or sumin u no had something to do with coal over the years!jus find it really sad that these men were still working it wot seemed like 1980 conditions like my grandad, dad and uncle had 2 b4 the pits starting closing, how brave ! r.i.p boys and big hearts to the all the familys xx
