You are so right, but still they will not listen.
We used a site some way off our home patch, just to escape the inevitable socialising you get drawn into when you become familiar faces in your local car parks.
It was by any standards a quiet little spot, but one that was routinely dogged by five or six regulars. The guys themselves were inoffensive enough and obviously the type that saw the infrequent results they got as a welcome respite from the long hours of waiting. In effect, they were doggers, as opposed to the sex tourists that are so endemic in these places nowadays.
Browsing through a dogging related forum one night, a young couple had posted their intentions of visiting said car park, and in their naivety, felt it necessary to give not only the location but the actual night and approximate time too. Even mentioning a specific car park was against the site rules, but the post lingered on the forum for several hours before the moderators took action. All they did then was to take out the name of the site by putting a string of red crosses in its place together with a warning.
The young couple were hoping to perform their first show and wanted to ensure they had two or three really polite guys there. If things went really well, then she may even offer more. It was this hint of “more” that worried me, so unusually, I mailed the couple to suggest they cancel their trip and make the fact known on the forum, just in case.
Ironically, if they’d just gone without mentioning the fact to anyone, I have little doubt that they’d have not only had a good night, but they would probably have returned time and time again. But!
About a day before the couple’s proposed visit, another post appeared on the original thread. It simply read “Sorry, but we have called this off for now”. However, it was a bluff. The couple had every intention of going out on the specified night and hoped their “cancellation” would be enough to deter what I suggested might be a testosterone tsunami.
The very next day I received a mail from them, recounting their frightening experience. So many cars were pulling into the car park, some were having to queue down the road, and others were parking some way off and walking in. The couple’s car was now effectively hemmed in, and guys were knocking on their windows to ask “Are you the couple looking for fun tonight?”. [How quickly did a “show” with “maybe more” get translated as guaranteed action!?] When she broke down in tears, the guys eventually cleared enough room to let them out, but the damage was already done.
